Hi, I'm Lisa Sabin-Wilson. I'm a designer, blogger and freelance entrepreneur - basically, I'm a geek living in a small town in the frozen tundra, also known as Wisconsin. By day, I am the Creative Director of my very busy design firm - E.Webscapes Designs, where we provide custom web and blog designs for our clients who are looking for something a little more unique than your standard premade theme. We work with all kinds of bloggers from personal to professional - and on all platforms from WordPress to TypePad and Movable Type to Expression Engine, and all points in between.
I am also the owner of a moderately busy web hosting service at Blogs About Hosting, where we provide web hosting solutions and domain registration for a diverse group of clients since 2003.
I am also a published author. In 2007, I wrote WordPress For Dummies.
The 1st edition of that book published in November 2007, and then I
wrote the 2nd edition of WordPress For Dummies that was released in
February 2009. I'm just a writing fool! I am currently in the process
of writing BuddyPress For Dummies, due out in February of 2010 - - and 2 other books that I cannot yet disclose publicly (but will when the time is right!)
People say alot of things about the rivalry between WordPress and
TypePad - - I simply say that consumers on the web have a choice, and I
happen to be hanging around helping those users get started, no matter
what choice they've made on the platform they will use. It is the
content that matters - how you get your content on the web is a matter
of personal preference. That is all I have to say on the matter. :)
Yes, I am mostly known as a WordPress girl - that is partly due to the book, and partly due to the fact that, up until now, I've always been found blogging on WordPress platforms. I have, however, been a member of TypePad since 2004 - and I've used my account here mainly to provide a staging area for my clients and their projects. Basically, I set their custom designs up on my TypePad blog and allow them to preview their finished product in a live TypePad environment before transferring it and going live with it on their own account. Up until now, that is how I've used my account - - I've decided to start a blog on TypePad and share some interesting ideas, news and resources about TypePad that I've learned over the years through my own work.
I speak frequently at meetings, groups and conferences on topics related to website and blog design, development and consulting. Recently, I gave a presentation to the Milwaukee Web Development Community, Web414, on the topic of blog theme design and development (June 2008). I also recently spoke at the 2008 South by Southwest Interactive Festival on the topic of WordPress and my book, WordPress For Dummies, in Austin Texas (March 2008). I was also a panelist at the 2006 South by Southwest Interactive Festival on the topic of how designers can hone their skills and make a living doing what I do. I am currently available for speaking engagements, if you are interested,
I’m also co-organizing the first ever
WordCamp Chicago to be held in Chicago, Illinois - June 6 & 7, 2009 - which is a grassroots gathering of passionate WordPress bloggers.
I truly enjoy the opportunities that have been available to me in sharing my experience and knowledge in blogging, design and social networking on the web - that alone, to me, is worth the price of admission!
